"The Burg" is part of the Award Winning Peterborough Newsagency.
"The Burg" is a slang term that was often used by the townspeople in the 1900s when referring to Peterborough or "Petersburg" (as it was known till 1917.)
"The Burg" contains a 20 metre mural depicting the history of the town from its early beginnings to the current day. It took local Artist Des Parker 12 months to complete and was done using pastels and paint. Complementing the mural are several static displays of local tourist attractions, a history room plus several television screens that showcase the town and local area in the form of slideshows. Recently a 30 inch screen has been added with a 30 minute presentation on the history of the town which plays continually.
The attraction can be accessed through the Peterborough Newsagency at 185-189 Main Street from 8 am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 11-30am Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays. We are closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday.
Entry is free.
